On Saturday Rick and I took a little day trip up to Sutter Creek in the Gold Rush area of Northern California. It is a quaint town, with lovely old houses and a charming main street which hosts a number of antique stores and boutiques.
When we lived in Granite Bay it was a frequent destination of ours but then the economy took a hit and many of the shops and restaurants had to close down. It has been probably seven or eight years since we have been there but I heard things were looking up and it was thriving again so we planned a return trip.
I will say, judging by the scarcity of parking, that it has become a bustling tourist attraction again. This time around there are quite a number of wine tasting rooms and clothing boutiques.
We popped into a few antique stores but the only one that really caught my fancy was the Antique Gardner. To be honest I don’t remember it from past visits but I guess it has been in business for 15 years or so.
It was a great combination of antiques and new items along with a large outdoor area in the back with plants and the like for sale.

I loved the sink on the left in the picture above. We used to have a nearly identical sink in our house in Los Altos. I think my brother in law still has the sink that he uses outdoors.
I do love our weekend drives. We just pick a destination less than two hours away, explore, have a leisurely lunch and we’re home in time for dinner. It’s never about the shopping or the eating – it’s more about a pretty drive and spending time together.
