Under a Blue Moon

Decor, cooking, organization, all the pretty things

4.18.11

Lilac1

It is that brief, lovely time of year when our lilacs bloom.  Rick cut a nice arm load of them and we had them in vases all through the house.  He also cut some of the apple blossoms off the tree and I made a loose, frowsy bouquet for the deck.

Unfortunately this time of year also coincides with the most wretched, decidedly UNLOVELY time of year.  Anyone that knows me knows I have a phobia about butterflies.  When people find out about it for the first time they always cock their head a little bit and scrunch up their face and say "Really?  Butterflies?"

But it's true.  I have a blood runs cold kind of terror about them.

And they are EVERYWHERE right now.  And they are the worst kind – the black ones.  Don't even try to tell "oh but they are so pretty…."

On Sunday morning I wanted to take a picture of my pretty lilacs.  And what should happen right as I'm taking the picture but a butterfly lands on my bouquet and then the entire bouquet fell off the railing and I had to run, shrieking, into the house.

Oh you poor thing. I suppose to most butterflies seem like something not to be afraid of. But it is all the same when it comes to terror… bees, spiders, butterflies.

May all butterflies pass you by.

PS – I absolutely adore lilacs… can’t wait for them to bloom here… we have a few weeks to go.

I get it! For me it is the erratic way they fly, similar to bats..

I so miss lilacs! Sigh, they don’t grow in LA. Oh sure, the proverbial “they” came up with a “California” version but it pales by comparison to the lilacs of the midwest! Enjoy them for me!!

Lucky you!!! So many wonderful flowers will not tolorate our hot humid wheather in South Texas!

Not sure I’ve ever seen real lilacs. Just the kind trapped in lotions, perfumes and soaps. So sorry the evil b-fly butted in and ruined everything. Darn him and his evil ways!

Instagram post 2340945580020536121_13069943 Guess who is getting some Grandma time this weekend! Rick thought this was a little over the top but I just wanted to fulfill my Holiday fairy tent fantasies.
Instagram post 2340488496363792013_13069943 I ran out of day (and daylight) to take a real photo so you get a pithy saying instead. Happy weekend! You are all dear to me. Just thought you should know that.
