Apron3

This was a bit of an impulse purchase.  It is a 1920's/1930's tea apron.  It is a pretty, non-functional (I'd argue that because pretty serves a purpose in my book) apron worn when entertaining.

Pieces like this just intrigue me so much.  I want to know who made it, when did she wear it, what was her life like.  Was this one of many or was this her one, special apron?  What was her home like?  Was she married?  Have children?  Was she happy?

I have her life all imagined in my head.  I don't know what your beliefs are but I like to believe that somewhere – out in the cosmos – she knows that someone has this pretty little apron of hers and cherishes and appreciates it.

How precious is that? What loveliness and beauty. I often wonder, as well as you, what the story is behind so many well cared for vintage finds that we come across, sometimes in unexpected places. Where did you find this jewel? Thanks for sharing.

I could not agree more, you owning and cherishing this apron puts positive energy out there. I hope the apron wasn’t a present from her daughter, that she never wore, because she wanted to keep it nice. That’s my story, because it would be just like me.

Seven days in a row, each one a gem, thanks!

That is gorgeous! I think it needed you as much as you needed it.

So lovely! I have to agree with Mary, though. I hope it’s former owner actually used it on occasion. When it comes to my own vintage finds, it is always the pieces with a bit of wear that speak to me. That faint stain on a tablecloth, or tiny chip on the edge of a vase tells me that that item was used and appreciated. I’m more apt to actually use an item that shows some wear, as opposed to just displaying it.

It’s beautiful… and I’m with you with wanting to know more of its history.

    Great purchase!

I remember my Grandmother wore lovely hostess aprons similar to yours. She was very bubbly and loved to entertain her friends and host bridge parties. She also had a beautiful collection of bed jackets, and she was so glamorous in my little girl eyes! Many of her aprons and household items were handed down from her mother. Enjoy your lovely apron and I hope that you will wear it!
