I am having a battle, no, a WAR, with my oven. I have a love/hate relationship with my range. It is a Thermador Professional Dual-Fuel range. I adore the gas cook-top but HATE the oven part.
The thing takes forever to heat up and I have to trick it to heat up to the temperature I want. Say I want to bake a batch of molasses cookies at 375 degrees F. I have to set it to 425 degree F, wait an hour and a half, check the oven thermometer I have inside, quickly toss in my pan of cookies, lower the temperature to 400 degrees F. and then ruin the first batch anyway.
I think the oven needs a sacrifice before it will entertain the idea of cooking even remotely properly.
This range does not come cheap, either. Fortunately (or maybe not…) Rick is in the kitchen design business so he got it at a professional discounted price. We have talked to a number of people with the same range and they have similar problems with it, particularly that it takes a coon's age to heat up.
We have calls into a couple of repair places and hope to have someone come out and look at it next week. Seems like Thermador should pick up the tab if it is a common problem.
Anyway – on to other things.
I am obsessed. With a certain candle. It has the perfect fresh, clean smell that isn't over-powering and just makes your house smell like a breezy Spring day. It is Yankee Candle's Country Linen. It doesn't have that faux dryer sheet smell most candles with the word "linen" have in their name.
I make a pilgrimage to Yankee Candle every couple of months and stock up. Imagine my dismay when the last time I went in they told me it had been discontinued!
Now I am actually going to have to clean my house in order for it to have that fresh, clean smell. I have a friend that knew of my plight and she emailed me a week or so ago and said that Bed, Bath & Beyond's on-line store had that particular scent on clearance.
So I bought them out. Every last one. I don't have to start cleaning for a month or two.

I feel for you. Our oven is horrible (although to be fair, it is old). When we moved in two years ago, we said we would replace it asap, but other things have intervened. The gas burners sometimes fail to self-ignite, which isn’t a huge thing. But sometimes that oven does, too, which is more of a pain. Then there is the oven temp. The oven doesn’t have its original dial, so you have to guesstimate the temp and check the thermometer every so often. You think it has FINALLY heated up to the temp you need, when surprise, it suddenly shoots up 50 degrees or more. Frustrating!

Molasses Cookies are my favorite and it’s okay if your oven doesn’t work because the dough tastes just as good as the cookies! Yours look so good!
Yankee candles are THE BEST!

Hello, I am new to your blog, I love your kitchen, it looks so fresh and clean.
You might try Home Goods or Marshall’s if you have those retailers in your area, I usually have pretty good luck finding discontinued Yankee candles there. I loaded up on Honey Dew Melon at Marshall’s several weeks ago. Also my sister in law tells me that during Yankee’s semi annual sale sometimes they bring back discontinued scents. I think the label is different though, my honey dew candles don’t look the same on the outside but they smell the same.

You make me laugh!!!!! If I ever see any I’ll get them for you. Better yet, I’ll keep them and then I won’t have to clean either! That’s the ticket!!!

It’s a shame something so beautiful as that stove doesn’t work right!

Sorry .. but from what I have read in reviews, that oven is just a no-go. I hope you can get Thermador to pay for all the repairs. Just show them all the poor online reviews and let them know that ALL of us consumers here on your nice little blog are waiting to see if you are treated well with your problems. That should get you some results!

I have that same range and I have always been disappointed with it. FIRST of all, the fan noise is too loud and it’s always on whether using “bake” or “convection”. (I thought the fan would only be on when using convection.)SECOND, it has always been slow to heat and inaccurate. THIRD, I have had to replace the computerized brain once already.
But, the cooktop part is pretty good.
Sometimes I wish I had bought an old Wedgewood like my Mom had. No electronic anything, worked perfectly for 50 years.

I love your oven too. Mine is a very small apartment size one (no I don’t live in an apartment, that’s just what I could afford 21 years ago) and it won’t die. I really don’t want it to but it would be a good way to get a new fancier one. Anyways, I hope they get yours fixed. I know about the candle problem, just as you really get to liking something it’s discontinued. I’m glad your helped you get a new batch.
