Under a Blue Moon

Decor, cooking, organization, all the pretty things

Ouch

Picture 711a

Rick is in surgery as I type this.  I ran home to get the house in order and make turnovers for him.  He is having surgery on his shoulder.

The surgeon said that shoulder surgery is very painful.  VERY.  I think he mentioned it half a dozen times.   The nurse asked if we had a recliner (which we don't) because it would be best if he just sat up for the next week.

So I've been rearranging furniture and fashioning ottomans out of empty storage boxes and pillows (artfully draped with a blanket).

Our furniture is comfy but it is not meant for convalescing.

Meanwhile I am pacing and waiting for them to call me up so I can pick him up.  The surgi-center is just 10 minutes from our house.

I've not been a very good blogger lately.  I apologize.  I'll get back on track.

Quick update for those that were following my now defunct weight-loss blog.  I fell off the wagon during the holidays and struggled mightily to get back on.  I finally did last week.  I am at my pre-holiday weight (25 lbs. lost to date) and have started a 30-day exercise challenge.  Some sort of exercise every day.  For 30 days.  It started yesterday and today I can barely walk.

What have I gotten myself into?

My best wishes to your husband for as little pain as possible and super-quick healing. For you, I say give yourself a break while your husband is recovering, because being a caregiver is tough!

I agree with Alexis, give yourself a little break while you get your poor DH through the next week or so! Unless you think you might need to go out and exercise for a break from the patient, LOL.

I hope the surgery goes really well and that your DH has a fast and easy convalescence. I hope the pain won’t be too bad!

When I had my knee replaced and had to do 6 weeks of rehab there were some people in rehab crying while they were doing theirs. Some people even refused to come in and get started. I asked my PT what was wrong with these people and she told me they all had shoulder surgery. Right then and there I decided my knee replacement surgery wasn’t so bad after all. Good luck.

    Ouch is right!
I hope that your husband is able to get plenty of rest and that he has some great pain medication.
Take care and don’t let stress get you!

    What Alexis said!

I hope recovery turns out to be easier than they anticipate.

Hang in there…both of you…it will be better about six weeks down the road. He’ll probably be glad he did it but that will much later on. Peace and blessings to you as you go through this with him.

Healing vibes to your hubby – I hope his recovery is swift and less painful than predicted. Remember to take care of yourself, too.

My husband had that surgery almost a year ago to the day and the recliner was a Godsend. (We bought one at a second hand shop and I’d give it to you if you lived close enough.) Just keep him doped up and he’ll be back to normal in about 9 months. I didn’t mean keep him doped up for 9 months, but it really does take a long time to heal. However, he should be able to get himself around pretty well in only 6 weeks. Now, how ’bout if you challenge your readers to help you exercise? Post your “sweat stats” and challenge us to beat them! Like: “I walked for 45 minutes today, did you?”

I hope Rick gets better soon. Will he have to have physical therapy too? We get a lot of shoulder post surgery here in the clinic.

    DEAR SWEET GIRL,
PUT NO PRESSURE ON YOURSELF THIS WEEK….ONE THING YOU MIGHT ALSO THINK ABOUT IS RENTING A TOILET EXTENDER SEAT BECAUSE YOU DON’T THINK ABOUT HAVING TO SET DOWN ON THE TOILET UNTIL YOU HAVE SHOULDER SURGERY…HE IS GOING TO BE HANDICAP FOR AWHILE…YOU CAN RENT THEM AT PHARMACIES I AM PRETTY SURE AND UNTIL HE GETS USE TO THAT SHOULDER BEING IMMOBILIZED HE IS AT A FALL RISK…LITTLE THINGS YOU DON’T THINK ABOUT…THEY DO RENT LIFT CHAIRS AND REALLY THAT WOULD BE THE WAY TO GO
I WILL BE PRAYING FOR BOTH OF YOU
    BLESSINGS

Andrea, my best wishes for a full recovery for Rick. I’m so sorry it has to be so painful to reach the goal though.

Take good care of yourself as well. Hang in there.

I’ll be thinking of both of you. ((hugs)) xo~m.

My prayers for Rick that his recovery is swift. Vann and I have both had shoulder surgery, and we know it’s no fun trip. Prayers for you too, Andrea, as the caregiver.

Here’s to a quick recovery. I hope all is well. I dream of a house with no recliners… after we were married I was afraid we couldn’t find a dining room table that we liked because the chairs didn’t recline. 🙂 (husband’s preference is for moving furniture)

Hope your hubby is on the mend, a friend of mine’s hubby had shoulder surgery a few weeks ago as well and I hear it’s not particularly an easy surgery to recover from 🙁 sending speedy recovery thoughts and prayers his way.
