Mantel redux

Picture 599a

I've been playing with the mantel again.  I'm really looking for a fresher, less cluttered look.  I haven't quite hit upon it yet but I'm working on it.

I think these metal squares will go back into the eating area.  I think the overall effect is too square and boxy looking.

Plus when I was trimming the wicks on my new IKEA candles I noticed they have metal in the wicks.  Zinc and tin are reputedly not as harmful as lead wicks (which are no longer manufactured in the US but can be found in some imported candles) but I'm not sure what the metal is in these candles.  So I'm going to relegate these to outdoors.  Better safe than sorry.

Back to the drawing board.

Andrea, I love when you treat us to your mantel arrangements.

I don’t remember one that I haven’t loved, I really like this one for a change.

Thanks so much about the lead in the wick reminder, too. HAGD! xo~m.

It’s fun to watch your mantel redos. I’m constantly looking for fresh ideas for mine. My daughter-in-law has such a simple way of decorating hers and I’m always amazed that I didn’t think of it first. Maybe we should have her give lessons! I like the look of your candles and squares.

I so wish I had a mantel. Sigh. I always love what you do with yours.

I suppose I’d have to see a long shot of your redone mantel, but I kinda like those tin thingy things partnered with those votives. Pretty. 🙂 LindaSonia

I am not so thrilled with this arrangement. It isn’t as soft and pretty as your typical mantels. The feng shui is wrong– too much hard stuff. It is all white, but there are too many competing designs- the metal scrollwork, the dental molding, the filigree or whatever that embellishment is. Too many patterns.
