I trust everyone has their tree down and their decorations put away. Hmmm?
I actually do but then that is no surprise to anyone that has known me more than 45 minutes. To me Christmas is over around 10:00pm on Christmas day. Then I'm just itching to put everything back to rights and to throw that last empty See's candy box out in the trash.
My undecorating was certainly simplified in that I didn't put up a regular tree. So it is all back, snug in its Rubbermaid storage boxes except for that one elusive decoration that manages to escape detection until the attic ladder is pulled back up and the glitter washed off my hands.
This so wasn't going to be a food post. I actually have pictures of a REAL 30's print quilt square that I've been re-purposing today but then I made pop-overs and, well, there you go.
I bought myself a popover pan today. I've been wanting one for years and just never got around to buying one. The recipe for popovers is so simple and is the perfect neutral vehicle for either savory or sweet. Kind of like crepes.
There used to be a restaurant near us called the Proud Popover and for next to nothing you could get a popover with your choice of filling or spread. Like chicken with a creamy sauce. Or honeyed butter.
The very best way to eat a popover is with your mother after a grueling day of shopping at Neiman Marcus, spread with strawberry butter.
I promise – the next post will not be about food. I don't think I can eat any more.

I’ve never made popovers. Yours look delicious. I agree about Christmas. When it’s over, it’s over. Get things put away as soon as possible.
Yum… popovers! I am still recuperating from Christmas exhaustion to even think about putting anything away… but, I wish it were all nicely and magically tucked back into Rubbermaid totes too!
The only restaurant I know that is all about Popovers is in Portsmouth, NH… the name… Popovers. lol. We always make sure to stop when we are up there.
I made popovers for Christmas dinner and they turned out wonderful too. Mine got a little browner than yours, but no one complained. I have the exact same popover pans too! Love the idea of serving them with a kind of chicken pot pie filling.
I make popovers at least once a week. They are so good! We used to have a Poppy Hotel nearby that served popovers hot from the oven by the basketful. When the closed, I had to start baking them at home. Your food pictures always make me hungry!
Happy New Year, and stay happy and healthy!
Oh my gosh! Thank you so much for the link to NM popovers and strawberry butter. We love to eat these at Neiman Marcus. Actually, if it was acceptable I would love just a plate of the popovers. Now I can make my own. Yippee!!!
I am glad I’m not the only right after Christmas Scrooge. It’s over – get it down, even if the fat lady hasn’t sung!! LOL
Oh dear, I bet you know what I’m craving now. 🙂
Yours look divine!
Merry Christmas the day after, well a few days, after to you too! We are having Christmas company this morning. My friend wanted her sister to see our home decked out. We usually leave the decorations up until January 1st or 2nd. However, this year, with me working fulltime, I’m feeling the need to get organized sooner. We will begin tomorrow.
You always bring back memories. Is there anything better then Neiman Marcus popovers with strawberry butter. Ahhhh, I miss it. Clarice-who house is still totally decorated for Christmas
I have to fight the urge to take it all down on Dec. 26, too. I usually take it all down on NYD instead, because I never get everything out or up early enough. In fact, I do several table trees and keep them decorated year round, just stashed away upstairs.
Love popovers – it’s been years!
i’ve never made popovers before – in fact, i can’t remember the last time i had them.
those look dee-licious!
wish i were as on the ball about taking the Christmas decorations down as you are. 🙂
I need one of those pans! Does it make a difference? My mother used to make popovers when we were little. I remember it was such a big treat. I want to make them. Yours look super delicious.
Well, my friend, I am much older than you and haven’t ever made popovers….and I couldn’t have them after shopping with my mother….BUT, I could have them after shopping with my daughter. Perhaps I will! Yours look wonderful….Happy New Year!!!!! Pat
