  • Sweet pillow cases for a girl's room
  • I love the show Flipping Out.  I wish I could go see Jeff Lewis' Kitchen of the Year but it sounds like today is the last day.  Ah well.  Season 4 of FO starts on August 10th.
  • Gorgeous collection of tablescapes in The Decorista's entertaining section.
  • I've always loved fil de fer wire baskets.  Good sale on this set at Ballard Designs.
  • Enamored with turquoise and gold jewelry these days.  There is something casual and elegant about the combination.  These earrings will do.

Happy Friday Everyone!!  I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Garden Markers

C

I think these markers are rather charming.  I've seen them on a number of Etsy shops but then I got the notion to make them myself.  Especially after reading Bunny Hill's tutorial on them.

I ordered this set, along with a jeweler's steel block and a ball peen hammer. The hammer was useless. Too dainty.

It's better to use a small sledge hammer.  And you have smash down with conviction.  You don't want to be tap tap tapping on it.  The letter stamps want to move.  Better to just hit it once or twice really hard.

I would also suggest you put something under the spoon to keep it from slipping when you are doing all this smashing.  Because it hurts like the devil when you smash your thumb.  With conviction.

(okay that's ivy but my herbs bolted and weren't looking very photogenic….)

How we roll around here on the weekend.

About three months ago I got a notion that I need to pull everything out of the attic so I could go through it and consolidate boxes.

After I got it all down into the garage, swept out the attic (huge mess from the roofing job two years ago) and threw out the disgusting old carpet that was covering the floor up there I ran out of steam.

Sorting and organizing is one of those things you really have to be the mood for.  I guess I was in the mood this morning because I started sifting through the boxes and the next thing you know I've got half of it dragged out into the driveway and Rick climbing up and down the attic stairs (he always manages to get sucked into these projects of mine).

Had to take a break to return a stray dog to her owner.  This is Maddi.  She wandered onto our property.  We live at the end of a country lane and I didn't recognize her as one of our neighbors'.  I called the number on her tag and then met up with her young owner at the end of the street (she lives in a nearby neighborhood).   She was very sweet and I was tempted to just keep her for myself.  Her person was very relieved to get her back though.

Anyway – back to cleaning.  Here is after:

Tada!

I can finally park in my garage again.  We have two garages – one single car garage (mine) and a double car garage (Rick's).

Okay not the most exciting way to spend a Saturday but I do feel a sense of accomplishment.

There is a guy down the street that actually has a garage with nothing in it except for his car.  Plain white walls, clean floor, nothing stacked up to the rafters or hanging on the walls.

I wonder where he puts all his stuff.

Gah!  Sorry about the lack of posts this week.  The week just got away from me.  Deadline looming on a huge project at work plus interviewing candidates for four new positions on our team.  I swear being the interviewER is almost as stressful as being the interviewEE.

Tip for anyone looking for employment:  Try spell check on your resume.  Seriously.

Next week I promise to have a palais/chicken update; how I smashed my thumb with my newest crafty obsession; and a stroll around the garden.

  • Gorgeous hooks from UrbanOutfitters.  Normally when I find a link through another blog I try to link back to it (via) but I was all excited about the gorgeous milky green that I forgot where I originally saw this.  Sorry about that.
  • Next book on my to read list:  The Bucolic Plague by Josh Kilmer-Purcell
  • New to me blog:  French Larkspur
  • Fun assortment of stuff.  Very eclectic:  Three Potato Four
  • And finally I leave you with this parody of a Carrie Underwood song:  Before I eat

Happy Friday Everyone!!

  • Now I've forgetten where I found this link – but at any rate love this vintage feel colander and porridge pot (pease porridge hot, pease porridge cold, pease porridge in the pot five days old!)
  • I have been very enamored with a certain jewelry designer's thin silver cuff bracelets.  I found a very similar bracelet on Etsy for 1/3 the price!
  • I know many of us watch movies just to look at the houses (Practical Magic, anyone?)  There's a blog post with a ton of screen caps of the 1940's bundalow used in Swing Shift.  (Note:  Hooked on Houses has an entire category devoted to houses in movies)

Happy Friday Everyone!  Today is an extra special day – it's Rick and my 27th wedding anniversary!  (We got married when we two if anyone is counting….)
