Under a Blue Moon

Decor, cooking, organization, all the pretty things

Full disclosure

Picture_394

Not doing so hot on the giving up Diet Coke thing.  Picture taken at 12:10pm.  On my fifth DC.

Wine glass was from last night.  I swear.

The little packet behind my current Diet Coke?  Advil.  The true breakfast of champions: Diet Coke and Advil.   I’ll be lucky if I survive the year…

With appreciation…

Thank you for the blogiversary wishes.  I can’t believe how fast a year went by.  And I can’t believe how shaky and unsure and just plain dumb my first entries were.  Seriously – how to boil an egg??

I am woefully behind on responding to emails and comments but I vow to catch up this week.  So if you get an email from me and you can’t remember what the heck I am referring to – well, that’s why.

Last count I had 131 to respond to…

Work continues to be a trial and it looks like I’ll be spending the better part of August in Colorado Springs.  Hope it’s nice there.  I’ll be training during the day and writing training material at night.  It’s going to be quite a ride!

All this while trying to wean myself from Diet Coke.  I drink a six pack a day and evidently it’s going to kill me.  And here I was thinking my vice is pretty innocuous.  I start my day around 6:30am and by 7:00am I’ve usually polished off two of them already.  It’s going to be tough to give up.  I have cut back to two a day and haven’t had the usual caffeine deprived headache (probably because I am drinking tea instead).

Diet Coke sales are going to plummet and it will be all my fault.  Of course I could always do this with Diet Coke instead.

Saturday drive

Picture_349

This picture is apropos of nothing really – except we had a lovely lovely lunch in San Luis Obisbo on Saturday at a restaurant called Novo.  We sat out on the deck under a giant oak tree and the shadows looked really interesting on the table.

San Luis Obisbo is a really cute town.   Since I grew up in a college town I kind of have an affinity for all of them.   Too bad it is so far away from the bay area.  We were doing a little reconnaissance – checking out the central coast area as a possible contender for a place to live.

We know we want to move out of the Sacramento area – and would prefer to be somewhat close to the coast.   So we set out on Saturday and drove up highway 1 to SLO, had a little lunch and then drove onto Atascadero (no), Templeton (very nice but kind of hot like we are trying to get away from and also kind of far) and Paso Robles (again, nice areas but man the heat will surely kill me).

See – this is what I want (driveby shooting, hence the blurriness); only I want to be sitting on an acre lot in the Carmel Valley area.  That’s not too much to ask, is it?  This was in San Luis Obisbo.  I said it was a cute town.

Hey I just realized I have been blogging for a year now (and one day).  Happy Blogiversary to me!

The Plum Tree Antiques

Picture_243

Another quick one…

A few weeks back, gosh, who knows maybe a few months back – I’m not entirely sure where the Summer has gone – I was visiting Dawn’s Feathered Nest blog and discovered she and her partner Cindy run a brick and mortar Antique Store called The Plum Tree Antiques in McDonough, Georgia.

I envy just about everyone that is east of Nevada because they seem to have MUCH better antique stores than we do here in California.  I think California’s attics aren’t old enough yet so the types of treasures I covet haven’t made their way into the shops yet.   Or there are much more intrepid and swift shoppers that get to all the good stuff before I can get my head out of the clouds.

I’m wistfully looking at all the lovely things on the Plum Tree blog when I realize they ship!  Just about anywhere!  Woohoo Dawn and Cindy!

So the little, vintage toy cash register had to be mine.   And after a few quick emails, a teeny delay because I was out of town, and it was on its way to me.

I can just imagine owning a little shop some day and having that little register behind the counter in a display.

Take a look at their website and if anything catches your eye shoot off an email to them.  It’s practically like being there in person.

Quick post

Flower_pots

Just popping in for a quick post.  I am working on a project (for work) that is going to be the death of me.  Even my normally unflappable project manager is feeling overwhelmed.  When he can’t keep the details straight I know that I am doomed.

I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned what I do for a living – I work for a very large IT Company that offers up service desk support for outside companies.  My job is to develop training plans when new customers come on board.  I develop the overall plan, schedule, logistics (how many trainers, how long will the training be, what materials are needed, etc.), create training materials and generally oversee the process.   Basically I figure out what it is we are supporting, how to support it and create the training plan from that.

Typically the sales team designs these impossible solutions with even more impossible deadlines for the customer and then gleefully hands it over to me (while pocketing their enormous bonuses) and says "make it so."  I actually met the person that designed this particular desk (for my current project) and I wanted to run up to him and kick him in the shins as hard as I could.

Okay enough about that – my blood pressure is percolating enough without me working myself up.

This weekend I finally got around to replanting all the pots on my deck.   It’s tough finding plants in the pale palette that I favor.  Around the Sacramento area the demand must be for hot pinks, reds, oranges and purples because that’s usually all I can find.  I went to four different nurseries on Saturday morning and finally found enough plants in the pale pinks, yellows and blues that I like.

I think the impetus was because we had a new roof put on the house last week and it looks so much better.  I was inspired to make the deck look better too.  We even ate outside on Saturday night.  The weather wasn’t too hot and the deck was so inviting.

Posting will be spotty for the next few weeks – I’ll do my best to pop in but I can’t guarantee that it won’t just be me ranting about my work load.  Hopefully I’ll be able to sneak in some cooking, crafting, decorating type activites.

I always do that ~ say I’m going to be quick and then ramble on….

I’m going to take a wee bit of a blogging break.  We’ll resume our regularly scheduled ramblings next week…
