Under a Blue Moon

Decor, cooking, organization, all the pretty things

Pretty little things

If I had my druthers I would spend my day in my little nest, making it cosy and interesting.  I have a penchant for all things sparkly, embroidered, white, metal, serene.  I find myself repeating patterns all over the place, unintentionally.  What is it about a swirl of metal or thread that draws me in?

I’ve been mulling over my dream bedroom for some time now.  I can see it perfectly in my head.  As we all know I have my eye on a certain duvet cover.  I envision this space to be light but not overly bright.  Crisp, white sheets with a deep ruffle of lace on the edges.  Calm colors, lots of texture.  Ideally the bed would be an old French iron bedstead but my husband, bless his decorating soul, was quicker than I when it came to realizing HIS dream bedroom so I have to work with a mahogany sleighbed and armoire (I suspect most couples with separate bedrooms do so not because of snoring or incompatible schedules but because of differing ideas on decor).

It would have a comfy reading chair in the corner with ample light and a place to set a drink and a candle.

I already have a fireplace with a beautiful mantel painted my favorite shade of creamy white.  I’ll admit that the fireplace rarely gets used.  It’s a nice romantic touch but when you are actually in bed you can’t see a fire, if one is lit.  I suppose if I had my comfy reading chair it might get more use.

So I suppose the next step is to take some action.  I need to start looking for a chair and new sheets.  It’s getting harder and harder to find sheets with interesting edging detail.  At least the kind of detail I want.  If anyone has any good ideas of where to look please let me know.

Good things are coming

One of my very first posts was about Pom Pom Maison and their beautiful linens.  Well I got an email from them today and they will be having an online store called madaspen|home opening mid-September where they will be selling their line of textile products.

Right now you can register to win a His/Her towel set and to be notified of the store opening.

I feel like I have my nose pressed up against the window trying to peer in to see all the pretty things.  I can’t wait for it to open.

and a fabulous time was had by all

Blurry

Happy sigh.  The wedding lived up to all the planning and hopes and dreams.  The bride was (is) ethereal.  The groom funny and sentimental (and for a short, harrowing time, pantless).  The love and joy just flowed the whole day and into the night.

I have this sense of change for our collective families.  This is the first of the grandparent’s grandchildren to get married.  It’s a slippery slope now to more weddings and babies and the like.   And I, for one, am happy to sit back and watch it happen.  A time to slow down and let the next generation take over.

To your future Sara and Ryan ~ may your glass always be full.

Let the festivities begin!

The getaway car.

My niece is getting married tomorrow!  Out of town guests are arriving (some from as far away as Tokyo), parties every night, beauty treatments being done!  It’s such a whirlwind of activity.

More to come.

Rituals

Margarita

On Fridays my husband and I have a little ritual.  On his way home he calls me and asks me if I need anything from the store.  That’s my cue that he’ll be home in about 15 minutes so I whip up a batch of margaritas for him.   When he gets home he hands me a bouquet of roses and I hand him an icy cold margarita.  Splendid arrangement, don’t you think?

I was going to post my margarita recipe because I do make a consistently good one, if I do say so myself.  But I’m not sure of the measurements.  I just eyeball it.  I will tell you I use 1/2 a can of frozen limeade, a glug of orange juice, the juice from 1/2 a fresh lime, tequila to taste and enough ice to fill the blender.  Little bit of salt on the rim and you are good to go.

Who’s got the better end of the bargain?

*I wanted to mention this at the end of the post rather than up top by deb5376’s picture because if I did you would wander off to view her pictures and never come back again ~ but now you must go check them out – Sigh.  I wish I could take pictures like that.  Expecially her flora and fauna set.  The flowers above were taken by me (which will be obvious once you see her work).  Okay go click on her name below the margarita picture.

Package!

P8140001

I do love to recieve packages in the mail (just ask my credit card…).  The above arrived today from Papier Valise.  I have no idea what I’m going to do with it yet but I recieved watch crystals, angel wings, gorgeous pink and green fish, glass leaves in green and clear and to top it off a little thank you envelope with an old train ticket, some vintage ribbon and a little heart.

Stay tuned ~ something good will come of it.
