Under a Blue Moon

Decor, cooking, organization, all the pretty things

I finished something…almost

Picture_381

Okay so technically I’m not done with this project because I still have to turn it into a tea cozy but I DID get the embroidery done.   Thanks mostly to Primrose Design and Princess Nimble-Thimble – both have on-line tutorials.  I can’t tell you how often I had to go back and figure how to do a French knot again.

I think if I was to do this over again I would have just done a daisy chain stitch for the flower petals.  But since my transfer pencil wasn’t cooperating I filled in the design on the transfer so I could see it on the fabric.  So I was kind of committed at that point.

The backside of this is a hot mess but we won’t go there.  I tried to not hop around with my thread too much but there are a few places where you can see the threads through the fabric.

Here’s a tip for you – keep your transfer close by so you can refer to it.  There were a few places I stitched where I shouldn’t have.  Then again a better transfer would have shown up better.

I think I might have to move the eyes on both the birds – they don’t look quite right to me.  Then again, maybe I’ll just leave well enough alone.

Now I have to figure out how to make a tea cozy…

I think whatever tomfoolery was going on with my banner has sorted itself out.  You should see bleeding hearts with the blog title.  I wish the font was crisper looking – but that’s what you get with my rudimentary graphic skills.

I love doing embroidery, and yours is lovely. Here’s a little tip. A lightweight iron on interfacing, fused to the back helps prevent shadowing of threads when you travel from spot to spot. Give it a try. Good Luck.

Your little birds are adorable! I can’t wait to see the finished tea cozy. I love the new blog title. I wish I knew how to customize mine that way. Did you do it yourself or did someone design it for you?

Great embroidery! But I can’t see anything on your banner-no picture or text. Hope it sorts itself out.

You did a great job. I like the satin stitch flowers. I think they look much better than daisy chain flowers…more work though. I think the eyes look like their in the right spot.

Oh Andrea, this is just darling. My mom is teaching my 10 year old daughter how to embroider. You did such a beautiful job.

Your blue birds are very beautiful– and the extra stitches?? where? I surely did not notice……
    and the eyes…..they’re beautiful!
Don’t you know, those little personal touches just add precious charm to make it yours!
And *handmade* is so much better than ANYthing that someone could buy in a bigbox (UNmentionable) store. ;o)
I recently found your site and adore the fun things you do.
    Happy stitching days……….to you.
