My button envy has been well documented on this blog. So it was with some excitement that I won three 200 button lots on eBay. 600 beautiful mother of pearl buttons to be used in all kinds of decorating and craft projects.
I was, however, a bit underwhelmed when I received them. 600 buttons doesn’t take up as much room as you think it would. I was envisioning a coffee can’s worth.
More like a cup’s worth. They smell kind of funky too. I’m thinking my button lust isn’t going to be one of those instant gratification things – more like a long, ongoing acquisition.
I felt the same kind of disappointment when my sister ordered and received one of those Sea Monkey kits when we were little. The advert in the back of the comic book depicted frolicking little sea creatures all dressed up in various outfits and looking adorable. The reality was brine shrimp which you cannot dress up no matter how hard you try.
I didn’t get much progress done on my runner yesterday. I did finish cutting out the leaves and I’m now whip stitching the vine in place. Once I do that getting the flowers attached will go very quickly. I hope to work on it this evening and have some progress to show tomorrow.
I also signed up for a blogging challenge. My first! It involves using a wedding image and incorporating it into some sort of artwork. I already know what I am going to do and the results will be posted here on January 29th.
If anyone else wants to join go over to Beachy’s Cape Cod Cupboard for the details.

My buttons I bought on eBay smelled like cigarettes! I couldn’t believe that they could aborb that much odor! I washed them and it seemed to help.
Yours look beautiful!

I know precisely what you mean about those sweet MOP buttons! I won a lot on ebay once, and I envisioned a big fruit cake tin. The tin was actually for tiny candies (full of buttons, small in size)! lol The seller did specify it accurately, I was just dreaming big!
Thank you for the link to the challenge! I think this will be fun!

They are very lovely.

Try washing and drying them and spraying them with Febreeze. I saw somewhere on another blog where they put white buttons on a clear glass plate. Then they sat white candles on it. Beautiful.

Oh, your buttons are wonderful…it will be fun creating with them.
We must be in the same general area. The storm brought a hugh tree down at our little park and really messed up our yard. Too bad about your lovely big tree…lucky your car was spared. Another storm is expected tonight. Stay warm. Linda

I know what you mean… I bought 200 small vintage buttons and they arrived in a tiny snack-sized bag! They seem to last forever though – I use them constantly and there are still lots of them in the bottom of my button jar.
Oh, and sorry about your pretty green bench!

Oh ya I relate to the button thing. I did the same thing and was “shocked” by how little the package was that they arrived in. I was pretty sure there was a mistake, NOT. Sorry that they smell funky. I hate getting a package to have it smell like smoke or something else funky.
I had to laugh when you mentioned the sea monkeys. I do remember the ad for those and always thought they would be so cool to have.
Can’t wait to see your wool project.
