Valentine’s Day always sneaks up on me. I think it’s a combination of being holiday’d out after Christmas and yet looking ahead to Easter (which, truth be told, appeals to me so much because of the colors). So Valentine’s Day rolls around and I make a mad dash to the store for cards and little gifts for the boys.
Said boys are grown but I remember how bitterly disappointed I was to show up at my parent’s house one Easter and find that there was no Easter Basket for me. I was 22 at the time….
But this isn’t about Easter. It’s not really about Valentine’s Day either. It’s about cupcake holders. There is a new Japanese dollar store that opened up near us and I went in looking for stationary goods and found what I thought were cupcake holders. Sara tells me they are really meant to go into Bento boxes to hold little tid bits of food. They have a bit of a plasticky coating on them which I do not think would hold up to baking.
The writing on the box they came in is all in Japanese but on one of them there is a picture of a microwave so I’m thinking they are microwave safe but not oven safe.
So I baked the cupcakes in run of the mill American cupcake holders and then plunked them into the pretty wrappers when they were decorated. I am kicking myself for not getting the teeny holders while I was at the store.
The teeny cupcakes turned out even cuter.

Ohhhh so cute! So was your store Daiso? I love that place. Love the papers, glad to know you can’t bake with them, I would have done it.

Oh – I just love Valentines Day. . . The hearts. . . the sentiment. . . & especially the doilies! I have had a thing for doilies since I was a little one! (I also think that I love Valentines so much because it gives me a chance to make up for not getting Christmas cards out!)
Your cupcakes are adorable!

I have just started venturing into the blog world. I don’t even remember how I happened on all of these inspiring and wondrous sites, but I am so glad I did. I’ve found a whole nest full of ladies who think like I do, and collect like I do – – and you in particular – – who are klutzy just like me. When I read about your kitchen calamities with the blender and the toaster, and your mishaps that spun off for the next couple of days, I was sitting here laughing so hard I cried!! The dog started barking – – no kidding. Hope to pop back into your site on another day. I’ve enjoyed this!
