Anyone remember this? I think I started it back in January. I got a knot in the front (hate when that happens) and I tried to untangle it but couldn’t so I put it down for a while, hoping it would sort itself out.
It didn’t. So I picked it back up this week and and cut out the offending knot and pulled the stitching out and started up again.
I plan on finishing it this week. Ha! Famous last words. It’s going to be a pillow when it is done.
I would get things done a lot faster if Belle didn’t think the floss spools were her play toys.
Let’s see what else have I been doing? Oh – fighting battle with the aphids. Every morning I go out and spray them off the roses with a good blast from the garden hose and the following morning they are back. This morning, however, it looks like their numbers are diminishing so I might be winning. They did ruin a few of the early buds though. I have mutated looking roses trying to open up.
Stupid aphids. Look – I just sprayed them a half hour ago and they are coming back.
They haven’t been bothering the Iceberg rose bush though. Iceberg was my Mother’s favorite rose. I love how the first blooms on the bush always have the slightest pink tint.
It’s because of the cool temperatures when the bud is forming, I’ve been told. And since Iceberg tends to bloom until November around these parts the last roses of the season tend to be a wee bit pink too.

Several garden ‘experts’ say to add a bit of dish detergent to a spray bottle, fill with water and spray the aphids. I guess it discourages the aphids but doesn’t hurt the roses. I need to get my spray bottle ready – if we ever have enough warm weather to have roses!

All beautiful! The handwork and the roses. I use to hand embroider. Made crazy quilts and pillows and such. Had a lot of fun. Used beads and made spider webs in the corners of projects with that thread that glitters. Then made little spiders on the web out of beads. It was a lot of fun. But early hand surgeries/car wreck gave me arthritis in them. My quilting/embroidering days are likely over. But you have fun. There’s nothing besides gardening (my pasttime) more therapeutic for the mind than hand work.

I can’t wait to see the finished pillow. I’m still working on my lemon table runner that I blogged about a while back. It really is taking a while to finish! I miss read,although to my credit it was in French, the directions for the color of the butterfly and had to tear out the whole thing 🙁 I really want to get it done in time for a table setting in June for my daughters graduation. I hope you get yours done.

Oh man! I’m fighting that same battle with the aphids down here. I’ve never seen them this bad. I think I am going to go buy some lady bugs next. I love my roses. It is the one thing you can count on to bloom in our heat.
I love your embroidery – I have that pattern and should really dig it out. Wonder what else I have hiding that I’ve forgotten about. Oh that thought makes me shudder, LOL. Beautiful roses.
