I am getting no where with my newfound interest in silk ribbon embroidery. I went to JoAnns and asked if they had any books, supplies, kits, ANYTHING and the women working there just looked at me blankly and vaguely gestured in the direction of the embroidery floss and said IF they had anything it would be over there. I hate when store personnel do that. Instead of sending me on a wild goose chase just find someone that can answer a definite yes or no.
Pretty much the same experience at Michael's where I actually did see a kit about two years ago. It must not have caught on because they sure don't carry it now.
There are plenty of on-line resources but I think I need a how to book before I get started. I'm not sure what width of ribbon to use. When I did it before I used regular old satin ribbon and not the easier to work with silk ribbon.
To console myself I bought a book of copyright free images of fairies and angels. It comes with the images printed on card stock and a cd with the images. I like the cd because I can adjust the colors and print the images myself.
I mainly bought it for the image on the cover and wouldn't you know it's not included in the book

I have this book, and I love just looking at it. Haven’t really done anything with the images.

I used to belong to a craft book club that had a lot of ribbon embroidry books…so maybe you can find something on e-bay or something of the likes.

I think the Fairies and the Angels will gide you with your new found interest. Everything is a coincidence. Keep pressing. Many Blessings, Virginia

Maybe some fellow bloggers will have an answer as to a good resource for a ribbon embroidery book. I will pose the question on my blog and maybe someone crafty will answer. Also, have you thought of emailing Posy Gets Cozy?

The A-Z series has a book on ribbon embroidery – http://www.countrybumpkin.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=40&products_id=266000
I’ve never tried this one, but I have some of the other books in the series (embroidery, bullions & smocking) & they are pretty good.
There should be cards of silk ribbon somewhere near the embroidery thread. But, a proper needlework shop would probably have a better range, including some lovely hand dyed ribbons.

I use “Silk Ribbon Embroidery Design & Techniques” by Ann Cox. It shows how to do different stitches, and has tutorials on sitching different flowers. I think I bought it at Amazon.com. And eBay has lots of wonderful silk ribbon!

Andrea, email me with your mailing address and, as a thank you for your wonderful blog posts, I will send you a copy of my book, “Teach Yourself Silk Ribbon Embroidery,” along with some fabric, ribbon, etc. It would be my pleasure to introduce you to the process by using the “real” thing and not satin ribbon. I’ll be expecting your email! Pat

I actually spied some ribbon embroidery supplies at my favorite quilt shop a few weeks ago. Seems that people are wanting to embellish a lot more these days. So you might go check a real quilt shop. I live in San Jose, CA and the quilt shop was Prairie Queens. I tried my hand at this many years ago and loved it, but have used up most of my ribbon here and there. You are making me want to give it a try again. Maybe we can start a new movement!
