I am back from crashing the quilt party. More on the quilting in a bit.
One of my favorite things to do while in Danville is to go to Cottage Jewel, a little antique shop. It's like walking into someone's home who collects all the things I love. Beautiful old dishes and silver, linens and vintage hats. Everything is clean and nicely displayed. None of that old basement smell some antique shops have.
I bought a linen hand towel with crocheted lace on both ends. I hope that whomever spent the time crocheting this knows that someone that really appreciates it has it now.
I got up early and packed up my car with my projects and my sewing machine and got to Danville around 9:00am. Most ladies were already at work on their projects.
Starting from the lower left and going clockwise: Annette, Nicki in the red, Sara, Bette, Linda and Connie in the purple. Not in the picture are Toni and Marla.
Here is Sara working on one of the eighty different projects she worked on during the day. The girl is prolific.
Here's my project: Acorn Quilt & Gift Company Meadow quilt pattern. I adjusted it to be square so I could use it as a table topper. Now I intially planned on hand appliquing the flowers on it (I fused the flowers on first) so I assembled the whole quilt. If I had known I was going to change my mind I would have machine appliqued the blocks before assembling.
My machine applique skills kind of suck but we'll just say we don't want it to look too polished, mkay?

It looks like you had a good time. I love your new tea towel. I love finding things like that and wonder who put all that love into it.
Your quilt is going to look beautiful as a table topper. I like to think the imperfections add to the handmade charm. When my sister complained that her bread came out looking funny I told her that meant it was “artisan” bread. She loved that! I love the green and black toile that Sara is working on too!
Your “table topper” is going to be precious. I so much prefer things made with love and enthusiasm over “perfectly??” made things. I like them to look like a human being actually took part in their making. Be sure to show us the finished product, please.
Looks like it was a great day. Pat
Andrea, what a pretty hand towel! Good choice.
The quilting party looks like it was fun. Yes! Please do show us your table topper when it’s finished. I really like the colors you’ve chosen, very cheerful. (Thanks for giving us the name, I’m going to go looking ~ love that retro look!)
It’s going to be lovely!
Darling pattern and your fabric choices are so cute.
Great find on the towel, too.
I had to laugh when I read Kathy’s comment above. Not realizing she had written it, I was cracking up that someone else makes “artisan” breads, too. Hmm…maybe it is only me. But that idea does help me quit stressing over imperfection.
So remember to keep repeating to yourself “Handmade charm, handmade charm”. It’ll be just wonderful when you get it finished. We’ll all be waiting to see.
I wish I could quilt! It looks so hard!
Aw – I miss that place. Wish I could have joined you all again. Looks like a lot of productive sewing going on!
That looks like so much fun. I can’t wait to see the finished product. Also – please please please post pictures of your chicken coop when and during its renovation from the goat house. My husband and I wanted to get some chickens this spring as well.
Whaddya talking about? Your quilt is adorable and you did a wonderful job! Heck, I couldn’t even get a sewing machine threaded. We must insist on seeing it finished and on your table.
Love, love, love that fabric Sara was working on! I want to see whatever that is too.
Aren’t quilting retreats just the most fun?
