October’s Party
by George Cooper
October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came.
The Chestnuts, Oaks and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.
The Chestnuts came in yellow,
The Oaks in crimson dressed;
The lovely Misses maple
In scarlet looked their best.
All balanced to their partners,
And gaily fluttered by;
The sight was like a rainbow
New fallen from the sky.

Love that little poem! And the picture is beautiful-looks like my back yard is looking lately. Leaves are changing fast here.

Oh that is one favourite October poem. I love October – we have Canadian Thanksgiving and at the end – my birthday! Party month, indeed!

Gorgeous picture, I am looking forward to the leaves turning, but it will be another 4 weeks for it to happen here in NC.

Well, color me jealous. The only time we see leaves that color here in Florida is in the silk flower dept at Michael’s. Le sigh.

I was just outside here is southwestern PA and started to recite some of that sweet poem-we had to memorize it in 2nd or 3rd grade-that was in the 1950’s. I Googled the first line and found this blog and the rest of the words of the poem-wonderful!

That was a poem my late mother loved. I miss the times we set out an looked at the differnce leaves. She was in her late 80’s when she left this side. I’m so happy she left me so much love here.
