Busy weekend at the Blue Moon household. We finally got our chicks. I would like to introduce you to Scarlett, Rosita and Lucy; the Rhode Island reds (three chicks on the left) and Bellina, Ina and Grace; the Buff Cochins (on the right).
Bonus points if you know where the name Bellina came from.
I suppose now we are committed to building a coop. These chicks are two weeks old and will probably be ready to go outdoors in about five weeks. The weather will be warm by then, I hope.
I also finally got the 3-tiered planter planted. Herbs on the bottom (basil, oregano, thyme, cilantro and chives) and geraniums, lobelia and allysum on the top two. The liner on the bottom is looking a little wonky. I didn't really notice it until I looked at the pictures. Hopefully when the herbs fill in it won't be so noticable.
I don't normally do this but I do believe in the power of positive energy (whether it be prayer, vibes or just a caring thought). So if you could throw some of that energy my son's way it would be dearly appreciated. My youngest had open heart surgery when he was 18 and as a result had to have a permanent pacemaker implanted. Today they discovered that one of the leads has cracked and needs to be replaced. They are going replace the entire pacemaker when they go in.
His name is Evan and his worrywort mother thanks you.

I’m sending all my positive energy Evan’s way…..best wishes to you all.
Those chicks…if they aren’t outside, that means they’re inside?
Great job on the planter…….no one would have noticed that wonky liner if you hadn’t pointed it out.

The only Bellina I’m familar with is from a David Eddings novel, the Ruby Knight I think. I hope your little chick does not have the same tendencies that this Bellina had.

Love those peeps! I said a prayer for Evan and the rest of the family. I look forward to hearing about his successful surgery!

Yes, I will certainly remember Evan in my positive energy thoughts. I do believe it helps. Your planter is looking great. And, I really-really want some chicks! But, I am not sure if I have the time to take care of them. Sara (your niece) tells me it does not take much time – but she is younger! Blessings to all of you, especially Evan.

I will gladly say a prayer for Evan. I’m partial to Evans because I have one too!
Your peeps are adorable. Did you see the chicken coop Heather Bullard and her husband built? Those chicks live in a palace!
Best wishes, Jill

Good thoughts for Evan and your family coming your way.
Be careful of the oregano! It spread like wild fire in my garden and took over EVERYTHING! Lost many of my other herbs that were not so demanding.

I hope Evan is doing well. My mom has a pacemaker and a few years after having hers put in one of her leads did the exact same thing and yes although routine it’s still worrisome and prayers and good thoughts are always good and helpful. Hope all is well!
