Under a Blue Moon

Decor, cooking, organization, all the pretty things

1.11.11

It is January.  January always just d r a a a a a a g s on forever, doesn't it?  It's dreary and cold and there aren't any fairy lights to add a little sparkle (Okay confession – my lights are still up on the deck and I'm still turning them on.  I can't decide if it is charming or tacky).

To top things off I have a cold and general feeling of malaise.  Like I have no energy and  my limbs are all noodly.

It's not helping that when I look out the window everything is grey.  This is what it looks like out my office window right now.

Admittedly there is a bit of green but still.  Grey grey grey.

What do you do to get out of the January doldrums?  Head to some tropical paradise?  Peruse gardening catalogs and dream of Spring?  Or look blearily out the window and think that it will never warm up and be sunny?

Edited to add:

Fairy lights. . . ? Charming. Always, charming. (How can they not be?) I must also admit. . . mine are still up too. . . & I’m thinking of putting them in the trees – just so I can keep enjoying them!
I hope that you feel better soon!

Glad you enclosed a pic of the fairy lights…totally charming! I’d leave them up all year long. Why not? Life is short. Quite glum here in LA too. No funds to travel, so I resort or escape to British TV programs. Sounds lame, but they take you out of your world. Just found one called Doc Martin which is a hoot and you forget all about what’s going on in real life. It’s available on Hulu. It’s a perfect little diversion. Obviously, I’m easily entertained. LOL!

If you enjoy the lights- keep them up! Less work for next year 🙂

When we took down our Christmas lights – it was so dark and gloomy. My husband hung white lights on the back of our house. My living room window looks out over our backyard. Now I can look out and see a nice glow – I also think it will look charming on a warm summer’s evening. What I’m trying to say is KEEP THE LIGHTS!

Hi Andrea, I’m new here, but I love your site. Usually I love the dreary days of winter, but this year feels different. I’m ready for spingtime!
