It will be no surprise to anyone that has been following my blog for any length of time that I like to take my Christmas decorations down just about as much as I enjoy putting them up. And I like it done immediately after Christmas. Seriously – like the very next day. This year I held out until the 27th only because I wasn't home on the 26th.
I start by rounding up all the non-tree related decor and put it all on the coffee table so I can assess the best way to pack it all back up. Then I remove all tree decorations, wrap them up and put them in their proper storage boxes. Then the trees get un-assembled and it all goes back into the shed. Done and dusted. Well except for the inevitable three of four things that I completely miss until mid January.
I wanted to change up the mantel a bit from how it was before Halloween when seasonal decor took over. I've had it the same way for ever, it seems. I bought myself a new orchid and put it in a pretty green cache pot and pulled out some cream colored pitchers.
I like the soothing palette of cream and green. And I do love a stack of books. Whenever I go to an antique store I always look for books with white or cream bindings. I rarely find them.
I can't believe it is the last day of the year. Where did it go? Whoosh! My house is all tidy, we've done all our little New Year's eve rituals and we are going to spend a quiet evening at home. I have a bottle of Prosecco chilling, a nice dinner planned and perhaps we'll light a fire and watch a movie.
I want to end the year by saying thank you to all of you that come by and visit this humble little blog. I truly appreciate you taking the time to read and comment and share a bit of yourselves as well. In fact I like that part the best. I wish you a very happy and fulfilling New Year.

My decorations are still up. It somehow feels like a trend lately for folk to take their decorations down as fast as possible, in particular this Holiday season – just my impression judging from the number of people I’ve heard/read that from. Somehow that’s never me.
Wishing the New Year brings you everything you wish for.

Thank you LindaSonia. I think since I decorate the second the last slice of pumpkin pie is served on Thanksgiving I am completely over Christmas on the 26th. I will say we still have our lights up on the house and I could totally be that person that leaves them up all year long….

I’m always ready to “undecorate” the minute Christmas is over too. I’m ready to organize, clean and purge and also reclaim my daily routines after a hectic, busy holiday season.
Your “humble” blog brings me lots of happiness. I love to watch your creative endeavors and also hear about your large, close family. My parents and in-laws have passed away and many members of our family live far away so I live vicariously through yours. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Melissa. Your comment reaffirms that while I want to make improvements to the blog I still want it to remain authentic. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
