  • If you like looking at house plans – especially adorable cottage style homes – this is a fabulous resource: Antique Home Style
  • Remember the Tord Boontje lace bunting that Target carried a few years back? I still kick myself for missing out… This has a similar feel (via Creature Comforts)
  • I thought these earring were unusual and pretty in a sort of William Morris/Arts & Craft style kind of way
  • Sweet little rubber stamps with a sewing motif.
  • If you like the Triplets of Belleville then this is right up your alley!

Happy Friday Everyone!

I made a good luck charm bracelet.  Jewelry making seems like it would be really soothing and a great creative outlet.  Unfortunately it requires a lot of fine motor skills which I don't seem to possess.

This project was fun though – mostly in the research and collecting of the charms.  I made it for someone that could use a little extra good luck and positive mojo right now.

  • 3 keys – three keys worn together symbolise the unlocking of the doors to health, wealth and love
  • Ankh- symbolizes the power of life- it is also commonly worn when going into battle for good luck
  • 4 leaf clover – each leaf represents something: the first is for hope, the second is for faith, the third is for love, and the fourth is for luck.
  • Horseshoe – there are two thoughts – one is to have the ends pointing up to catch good luck and the other is to have them pointing down so the luck spills out over the home (or wearer in this case)
  • Heart – the classic symbol of love, also symbolizes feminine power
  • Elephant – the elephant symbolizes wisdom, good luck, strength and power
  • Wishbone – symbol of good luck and wishes coming true
  • Ladybug – ladybugs are good omens.  It is believed you will have good luck if one lands on you
  • Star – in ancient times it was believed good fortunes were determined by the stars.
  • Bee – a symbol of hope, and also diligence and hard work

Autumn1

It was a lovely Fall weekend around these parts.  We don't get too many days like this – where the weather is cool, but sunny and the leaves are gently falling from the trees.

No our yard is not on fire.  It was a burn day so Rick pulled a bunch of dead limbs down into a natural hollow in our yard and burned them.  It just helped add to the ambiance.

I spent the day puttering around and reading magazines.  The day before was spent – and there is no way to say this delicately – cleaning Ina's backside.  The cochins are quite beautiful with their very fluffy feathers but they can tend to have an undesirable build up of chicken poop.  Which needs to be cleaned off because it won't go away on its own.

So poor Ina had to be captured and wrapped in a towel.  Rick held her while I took warm wet rags and had at the business end of things.  I'm not sure who was more traumatized – me or Ina.  I'm thinking Ina.

  • I loved this necklace even before I knew the seller's name
  • Fabulous idea for all those vintage tins we collect – from Design Sponge
  • Now if this blog doesn't make you want to plan a flea market excursion to France then nothing will – Paris Parfait
  • Great collection of drawings from the children's book illustrator W. Heath Robinson.  I love the detail
  • Now this is a clever idea.  Why didn't I think of it!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!  We are going to explore the seamier side of chicken husbandry this weekend.  I'll be sure to report back.

Today is a very special day ~ my dear friend Kelly (my benefactress) is having a birthday!

Happy Birthday Kelly!  I hope all your birthday wishes come true!

I won't out her by telling her age but it is a good one.  As you know, Kelly has been quite generous to me.  I have stacks of beautiful linens, lovely plates and teacups, gorgeous pictures and so much more that she has given me over the years.  She is a champion estate and garage sale shopper and has a very discerning eye for discovering treasures.

She also knows exactly the things I like (lots of white, silver and frothy handkerchiefs).

But most of all she is a dear and caring friend.  We've known each other since we were 12 years old.  Here's to another (mumble) years of friendship!
