Palmiers et Thé

Palmier

Since I can't come up with my own creative ideas I've decided to try out some of the suggestions on other peoples blogs.

Like these Palmier cookies from French Garden House.

I can remember what a treat these were when I would go to the bakery with my Mom and she would buy one for me.  Crispy, buttery and sugary – what could be better?

The really huge ones we called Elephant Ears.  These little ones are perfect with a cup of tea.

I have re-quit drinking Diet Coke.  I quit last year and didn't drink a single one for about three months.  Then I had one.  And the next day I had another.  Then pretty soon I was drinking two a day.  Last Saturday I had six.  I knew it was time to do something about it.  So I quit cold turkey on Monday.  Tuesday and Wednesday I had a splitting headache but by Thursday I was fine.

I'm drinking iced tea and water for now and when it cools off I'll start drinking pots of hot tea.

For the record these cookies go great with either hot or cold tea.

And I'll be eating them here:

Award winning blog

Trophy

World Champion in the Most Boring Blog Ever! category.

I don't know what my problem is.  I am not feeling the least bit creative or witty these days.  I don't know if it is the season winding down or the collective stress we all seem to be under but I can't find the engery to do anything blog worthy.

I do know that I'm am looking forward to Fall and I've noticed telltale signs that Summer is starting to give way to Fall.  It is still hot but there is a shift in the breeze and the slant of the light.

Anyway – if anyone is sticking with me I thank you and I vow to be a better blogger.

You whooo – where are you?

Disney2

Sorry for the absence.  I've been off buying a new house.  Lovely old mansion in New Orleans.   It's a little bit haunted though.  And overrun with tourists.

Oh okay – that's the haunted mansion at Disneyland.  I do love the iron work and the widow's walk though.

I just got back from a four day trip down to Los Angeles with a group of women.  We were celebrating my cousin's 23rd birthday in Disneyland and I don't know what is more tired – my feet from all the walking or my face from all the laughing.

I have tons of pictures but I left my camera at my Dad's house so I can't upload them until Sunday.

I did take a few with my iPhone so I could email them quickly to the poor folks that couldn't make it.

I love Disneyland.  My sister Kate says that if she ever runs away from home that is where we can find her.  I know exactly what she means.

Evolution of a pig

007

…and this little piggy managed to get himself painted, silverleafed, painted some more and then antiqued.

Yet he remains so good natured.

He started out terracotta – which wasn't working for me so he spent a stint whitewashed:

He was just too chalky looking.  He didn't like it either.    So late one night (when I seem to find all my inspiration and energy) I silverleafed him.  He looked a bit like I had wrapped him in aluminum foil so I sponged on a couple different shades of grey paint and then finally sponged on some burnt umber ink.

He looks like he's been silver for centuries now.

Silverleafing is a lot of fun and quite easy.  It's just a bit messy.  I still have little bits of silverleaf floating around the dining room.

More little sewing

Meet Mr. & Mrs. Zebra Finch.  They are my oldest son's feathered companions.  They are just as sweet as they look and like to chatter away at anyone that comes within their vacinity.

Which is rather charming at 2:00pm but not so much at 5:30am.   My son had taken to tossing a towel over the cage at night but I didn't think that was very attractive so I whipped up a cage cover this morning.

It's super simple but much nicer than an old towel.  I'm thinking it needs something.  Like maybe grosgrain ribbon trim.   I'd slap some lace on it if it were mine but I don't think my son has quite the same decorating esthetic that I have.

(Excuse the cellphone pics – my camera is elsewhere today)
