Under a Blue Moon

Decor, cooking, organization, all the pretty things

Let the decorating begin!

Picture_164

December 1st – I should have decorations up by now, don’t you think?  We’ve been very busy at the Blue Moon household ~ getting our painted cabinets installed in the livingroom so no time for decorating just yet.

It turned out better than we had hoped for.  I’m very pleased.  And I’ll have photos tomorrow.  I’m still setting up books and objet d’art at the moment.   So tomorrow when the light is better I’ll take pictures and post.

I love it when something works out better than you expected.

Cupcakes – are these brilliant or what??

Ivyvinecwriv

Aren’t these cupcake holders fabulous?  I so want to have a tea party or something so I can make cupcakes and put them in these.  Someone needs to get married or have a baby or something.  They are so shower-esque.

They come from Paper Orchid and they have wrappers for every occasion.

Squeeee!  Love the snowflake design.  Can’t you see these on a tiered white or cut glass cake stand?  With frothy white linens and steaming mugs of hot cocoa?

Hmmm – wonder where the little teeny individual cupcake stands can be found…

Where oh where…

Bullfinch

I’ve become one of those bloggers that never posts.  I am so sorry about that.  I don’t know what is going on.  It’s not like I am inordinately busy or anything like that.  More likely just unispired at the moment.

The holiday spirit will kick in soon so please stay tuned and don’t give up on me.  Also painting is complete on the Before project and I’ll have an After post this week.  We just need to get it all set up in the house once the paint is thoroughly dry.

I still hold the World’s Worst Painter title.  By a landslide.  The beauty of painting furniture white is that you can kind of get away with sloppy work.  I told Rick I was deliberately going for that drippy, distressed look.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend (long one for us in the states!) and is ready to start decorating for the holidays in ernest!

I kind of wandered off there, didn’t I?

I don’t know where the week went, truth be told.  I don’t have a lot to show for it, that is for sure.

We had a lovely,  much too short visit with my sister Kate, BIL Robert and my Dad.  I love it when my Dad comes up here.  There is just a nice routine to it.  He has a chair in the corner of the kitchen/eating area.  He’ll get up and check on the goats to see how they are getting on.  He’ll read.  He is the perfect, no effort house guest.   So were you Kate and Rob!

We are a bit off the beaten path so it thrills us to no end when family wants to come up and visit us (ahem…).

On the Wednesday before last weekend my lovely neice Sara came by and she was bearing gifts!  A find quality in a person, don’t you think?  She was actually just the messenger – the gift, quite a delightful surprise, was from Clarice of Storybook Woods!  Color me shocked.  And so honored.  I almost didn’t want to open it but got over that quickly.  Isn’t that the most adorable, sweet wrapping you have ever seen.  I’m getting inspiration for my Christmas wrap…

Inside was a sweet little plate that perfectly goes with others in my small collection.  I have just the perfect spot for this.  Thank you Clarice.  I am so touched.

This weekend will be painting the before project.  Wish me luck.  I’m the world’s suckiest painter.

Waiting

Ozzie_294

The house is all sparkly clean, the guest rooms ready and now we’re just in that giddy, waiting for the actual guests to arrive, state.

My sister Kate, her husband Robert and my Dad are all coming up for the night.  Kate and I have plans to hit up Pottery World (local to Granite Bay, sorry rest of the world…) and feast our eyes on the Christmas displays.  This place goes over the top.  I wonder if they would let me take pictures….probably not.

The house was smelling a bit closed up so I opened all the bedrooms windows and about ten minutes later our neighbor started burning brush and stinked up the place.  So I closed everything back up and lit candles instead.  Yankee Candle’s Country Linen is the candle you need if you want your house to smell all fresh and clean.  It’s not dryer-sheet smelling like a lot of linen scented candles.  Just nice and fresh.

There – that’s my housekeeping tip of the day.  Happy weekend everyone.

Isn’t this a cute idea – it’s from French General.  I think an ivory version with all mother of pearl buttons, jewels and pearls would be really pretty.  You could do a few of varying heights for a mantel display.

I finally got my hands on the new Victoria magazine and I admit to being a bit surprised that it was a Christmas issue.  Not sure why that should surprise me but it did.  I was heartned to see they pretty much just picked up where they left off with the same format.

And would you just look at this:

From Room Service Home – a glittered pedestal!  It’s starting to feel like Christmas…
