  • Someone make me these: Salted pumpkin caramels
  • This is dedication.  A dad included a sandwich bag drawing in his kids lunch bag everyday since 2008
  • Chrysophase might be my new favorite stone (okay so not a big departure for me…)
  • Cute cupbake or treat boxes (love the retro oven one too)
  • This looks right up my cinematic alley.  A movie about the making of Mary Poppins (which was one of the very first movies I ever saw)(plus Emma Thompson is my favorite actress.  Bonus link:  My favorite scene from a movie)

Tile has been ordered!  Bath contractor has been lined up!  Whoot!  We are finally getting started on our main bath remodel.  I've been given the go ahead to start tearing out the wallpaper.  Which I thoroughly intend to do this weekend.  Along with possibly painting our bedroom.  We'll see how ambitious I'm feeling tomorrow morning.  Maybe if I get the prep (taping) done tonight I'll be able to knock it out in half a day tomorrow.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend planned.  Goodness – how can the year be over half over??

What to do with left over pie crust dough?  Make flowers!

Actually, technically this is pizza dough and it would probably have tasted better with left over pie dough.  I'll have to remember this for next time.

I just rolled it out, cut out the shapes, brushed with melted butter and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and then baked for about 8 minutes.  I think they would be adorable at a tea party.

I sure have been on a baking kick lately.  I should be on a salad kick….

  • I've tried REALLY hard not to search out mint green earrings but you know I just can't help myself.  LOVE these.
  • On my book wish list:  The Secret Life of Baked Goods
  • Fabulous jewelry display/storage (heck her before even looks good!)
  • New, to me anyway, blog about restoring an 1890's Victorian.  She is so stinkin' funny too.
  • This is so poignant.  And so true (seriously – watch it.  I had my doubts on what Dustin Hoffman could bring to the table but he so gets it)

Yikes!  This day kind of got away from me.  It was almost "Saturday's Favorites" which just doesn't have the same ring to it.

Tomorrow we are DETERMINED to finalize the tile for the main bath.  It is the only thing holding us up with the bathroom remodel.

Other than that I'm not sure what the weekend holds for us.  General puttering I suppose. We are gently settling into our routine and our new neighborhood.  I'm feeling very content these days.  Just letting the days unfold as they please.

Happy weekend everyone!  Hope yours is sublime.

Sitting room1

Well I actually did it. I painted like I said I would.  I got up on Saturday morning and just started taping.  I find that to be the most time consuming and tedious part of painting.

The actual painting part didn't take too long since I was only painting the upper portion of the wall. I did one coat of primer to cover the blue and then one coat of Valspar Cream in my Coffee paint. It's coming across a little lighter in the pictures but it is a lovely creamy color with enough contrast against the white trim.

To refresh your memory here is the sitting room before.  Take note of the window coverings too.

Sitting room before

There wasn't really anything wrong with the before.  It just wasn't a color that I would have picked. To me it looked like a baby's room.  The wallpaper on the bottom half will go eventually but it doesn't bother me as much with the new paint color.

I also refashioned the window coverings.  I'm not a fan of those roman shades or whatever they are called.  Each window actually has two curtains on it.  A chiffon like shade with crystal trim and the pale cream and blue toile hanging over it.  I cut the toile in half and hemmed it to make a flat panel then sewed about two inches of the chiffon with the crystal trim to the hem.  Much less fussy looking to me.

Please ignore what appears to be a dead cat in the next picture.  Belle has to be in the center of things.

Eventually we will get new chairs (I want a pair of these) and new carpeting.  But for now I'm happy with how the room looks.

This random day off in the middle of the week has me all discombobulated.  It feels like Monday to me.

I hope everyone (that celebrates) had a splendid 4th of July. I spent all morning in the kitchen cooking.  My pie turned out really good!  The lattice crust was way easier than I anticipated.  I used this recipe for my pie and it turned out great.

Not sure what is on the agenda this weekend.  I'm still hoping to paint….let's see how that goes.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Shortcake2

Here is a patriotic 4th of July dessert.  I made shortbread in the shape of stars and sprinkled them with sugar crystals for a little sparkle.

Are you a biscuit type strawberry shortcake person or a sponge cake strawberry shortcake person?  Both have their merits but I think I lean towards the biscuit kind.  Soaks up all that delicious strawberry juice better, me thinks.

The recipe I followed can be found here:  Old-Fashioned Strawberry Shortcake and it couldn't have been easier.  I did the whole thing in the food processor (even the step where I added the half & half).  It is a soft, slightly sticky dough but very easy to work with.

Happy 4th of July everyone!

Edited to add:

Whipped this up for the 4th too.  My first lattice crust!  Turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself.  Link to blueberry pie recipe.
