  • Lovely vintagey green hand painted tray.  And a lovely painting by the same artist.  I want both for my kitchen.
  • Fabulous before and afters.  Amazing what a coat of paint can do to a sad, neglected piece of furniture
  • I do love Ikea for simple serving pieces.
  • I wonder if my laptop would fit in this sweet looking bag
  • Love the retro look of this camping cup.  I can remember having a similar one when I was a Girl Scout

Happy Friday everyone!  It promises to be HOT this weekend so I think I'm going to try to stay inside where it is nice and cool as much as possible.  Who knows…maybe I'll paint something.

Hope your weekend is fabulous!

Walk1

Every Thursday evening, from May until October, there is a farmer's market just a few blocks from our house.  I'm telling you one of our top items on our new home wishlist was to be within walking distance of a cute, vibrant downtown and Livermore has that in spades.   I have to pinch myself to make sure I'm not dreaming whenever we walk around here.

I've been telling everyone that I feel like I'm living in an Andy Griffith television show.  Mayberry RFD could have been filmed here.

Walk2

Last Thursday I took pictures as I headed to the Farmer's market so you could see what I mean. So let's go!

I don't think there is anything more All-American than a porch, hydrangeas and a flag.  I bet I could go knock on that door and borrow a cup of sugar.

Walk3

This picture (above) is a retirement home.  It used to be a hospital in a previous life.

Walk4

There are picket fences everywhere.  One of the improvements we want to make to our house is to add a picket fence.  So we walk around the neighborhood comparing different styles of pickets and try to figure out which is our favorite.  I have it narrowed down to about ten different styles.

Walk6

When I go again this week I'll take pictures of the actual farmer's market.  It is just the perfect size.  Plenty of selection but not so many vendors that it's overwhelming.

  • One of the many happy surprises with our new home is an apricot tree.  It's pretty small and just has a handful of apricots but when it gets more prolific I'm making this apricot tart.  Isn't that gorgeous?  Curious – do you say app-ri-cot or aaa-pri-cot?  We have a differing opinion on which is correct in this household
  • Street map necklace – great way to commemorate your home town or a fabulous vacation
  • Technically this is a Valentine post and they are mug rugs but I think slightly larger they would make lovely pot holders.  Kind of like my retro ones
  • Sweet, Summery espadrilles
  • On my book wishlist:  Seasons:  The Best of Donna Hays Magazine  I love Donna Hays' magazine, when I can find it.   And when I do find it her seasons are upside down from mine so when I'm ready for Summer her Winter issue is just out.  This book looks like the perfect solution

Happy First Day of Summer!  We have been dialing in our garden so we can spend more time out there.  Not that there is too much that needs doing – mostly keeping the weeds under control and taking out a few plants that weren't quite our garden esthetic and replacing them with some that are.  I was going to show you our wall fountain out back this week and never got out there to take pictures.  Next week I promise!

This weekend I have a big basket of blueberries that need to be turned into a pie.  We also want to work a bit on the little courtyard.  Rick took out a tree and moved a rose.  I want to tidy it up and repaint my cafe table and chairs that are out there.

Goodness – there is always something to do around here!

Hope your weekend is spectacular.

Chalkboard

My to do list chalkboard is one of the mini projects that I did for my office.  I think I mentioned it a while back but didn't have a close-up picture of the final result.

I don't have any step by step pictures but it was pretty straightforward to create.

I bought a frame from Ikea.  It came in a glossy white finish that was very plasticky looking (well it IS plastic to it goes to reason…) so I spray-painted it flat white.

Then I spray painted the glass with black chalk-board paint.  You will need a few light coats to get this to look right.  Wear gloves when you paint unless you want permanently black fingernails.

Once it dried I printed off the "To Do" part and the scrolly design in the size I wanted.  I rubbed the back of the printed paper with chalk and taped it in place and traced over the designs with a pencil (this transfers the chalk design to the chalkboard).

Then I drew over the chalked design with a white pen. Once it was dry I reassembled and primed the board by going over the whole thing with chalk and then erasing (not exactly sure why this step is necessary but it's what it said to do on the back of the chalkboard paint can).

Supplies:

  • Ikea Ung Drill Frame
  • Rustoleum flat white spraypaint
  • Rustoleum chalkboard spraypaint
  • Pen-touch white fine point (1.0mm) opaque ink pen
  • Chalkboard fonts:  Handy George, Bergamont Ornaments
  • Chalk (which is surprisingly hard to find, considering how popular chalkboards are)

  • This is a completely clever use of spray paint.  Turn a new fan retro
  • Hmmm.  Wonder if Chardonnay has the same effect
  • Lovely alphabet stamp set (via Creature Comforts) and D'oh!  Why didn't I think of that!
  • Are these not the cutest cookies you have ever seen?  And you can order the cookie cutter and make them yourself!  (No. 8794 of things I have pinned and plan on doing one of these days….)
  • Who had a pen pal growing up?  I can remember my third grade teach organizing pen pals for all of us.  I wish I had kept up with it.  There really isn't anything as sweetly exhilarating as getting real mail.  Pretty post cards, in case you ever take it up again

How can it be mid-June already?  This year is just flying by.  My new job is keeping me very busy (good busy) and the house is too.  Unfortunately the blog, as always, suffers a bit.  I'll try to get caught up here with the little projects we have accomplished.  I just need to spend some time taking pictures.

This weekend I'm not entirely sure what we'll be doing.  I do have weeding that really needs attending to so that might happen.  Maybe I'll pick a room and paint it.  I have to kind of sneak up on myself with the idea otherwise I over-think it and get all worn out before I even start.

I hope your weekend is splendid!

  • Good lord is this not the cutest dustpan you have ever seen??  I might actually sweep more often if I had it
  • Very clever – make your own Otter Pops (or whatever they are called now) using these bags.  Is it just me or do Otter Pops make you cough when you eat them?
  • Keeping with the frozen treat theme – wouldn't these ice cream cups be cute for a Summer party?  Here are the spoons to go with them
  • This is what I strive for

Another week come and gone.  We have been interviewing contractors for our main bath remodel.  I would say the economy is definitely on an uptick because most of them are too busy for our poky little job.  We have had only one of them actually get back to us with a bid.  We do have two others that we are waiting for and hopefully they will follow through.  It would be nice to have more than one bid to choose from.

We did get Rick's corner desk put in.  This entailed painting the laundry room/Rick's office area and building the corner unit.  It turned out nicely.  I'll try to get some pictures of the before and after next week.

Tomorrow we are focusing our attention outside and will be putting up a trellis for the jasmine we bought.  Rick sunk a post and hung my wall fountain and we want the jasmine to grow up behind it. Another post forthcoming…

The irony here is that I finally have things to post about but no time to do it.

We will be having houseguests again this weekend.  The weather promises to be hot so maybe we'll be able to eat outside.  Hmmm….maybe I should go hang some fairly lights out there….

Have a marvelous weekend everyone!
