Under a Blue Moon

Decor, cooking, organization, all the pretty things

Breakfast

Happy Monday.  I hope everyone had a good weekend.  We had a whirlwind of visitors which is always fun.  So our weekend was spent visiting and eating.

I made pumpkin French toast which I don't think I'll make again.  To me the pumpkin flavor wasn't really all that pronounced and the toast itself seemed kind of mushy (even following the Alton Brown method of making perfect French toast – which totally works with regular French toast).  The breakfast wasn't a total flop since we had fresh cherries from the farmer's market.

To me nothing is quite as Summery as cherries.  All of my Nancy Drew books had smears of cherry juice in the pages because I would get up in the morning, throw on some shorts and head outside to pick a bowl of cherries.  Then I would lay in the hammock reading and eating cherries until I swore I would never eat another one.  Which I wouldn't, until the next morning when I would repeat the process.

We are really enjoying our new town.  Everyone is friendly, the downtown is always bustling with people and it is very family friendly.  They have a number of fountains downtown including a very interactive one.  It was nice and hot on Saturday and after lunch one of our visitors couldn't resist the lure.

New FF

  • I want to make these just so see if they would actually work.  They would make cute favor boxes, wouldn't they?
  • I can't decide if these measuring cups are really pretty or a bit too gothic.
  • I already have a recipe box but if I didn't I would get this one.  Matching recipe cards.
  • Clever save the date cards.  I think they wouldn't be that hard to make, either.  Which gives me an idea for this year's Halloween invite….
  • This is the key hook I posted this week.  I was able to select the color I wanted (I went with jade)

As you can see I've changed things up just a little bit around here.  I can't decide if the images are too big or not (and the old posts with the smaller images bug me now…I may have to go back and update those).  I may play around with the layout some more.  I also want to design a new Friday's Favorites banner.  Edit:  We'll play around with this one for now…

We don't have much scheduled for the weekend.  Just more puttering around.  I really need to focus on getting the walls painted.  It's just SUCH a chore I'm having a hard time getting motivated to do it.

Maybe I rewire a chandelier this weekend.  I want to swap out the one in the kitchen and that's a pretty easy project (says the person that doesn't actually have to hang the chandelier…)

Happy weekend everyone!  Hope yours is fantastic!

  • This seems like just the sort of thing Zach Galifianakis would do
  • Ha!  If only this were true…..
  • Then I could eat as many as these as I wanted: Margarita popcicles
  • Okay I know I did a house tour last week but isn't this place so fresh and pretty?  And only 750 sf!!

I'm probably hooked on house tours because we are still in the throes of trying to pick out paint colors and I get lots of inspiration from them.  I think we have it figured out – at least the bedrooms and living room.

Sorry about the late Friday's Favorites.  This week was especially hectic work wise since I started a new job and had a conference in San Francisco to attend.  I'm telling you the new job is going to be fabulous.  I can tell already.  It's going to be fast paced and busy but a creative kind of busy that I can get behind.

Today Rick and I spent the morning at Ikea and the afternoon assembling various bits of furniture.  I've made some changes with my office/craft room which I will share next week.

Have a splendid weekend everyone!

Happy Weekend!  I am going to help my mother in law with another garage sale tomorrow.  I pretty much cleared out all my stuff at the last one but I'm going to keep her company and help with crowd control.

Who knows how the rest of the weekend will shape up. Goodness with that To Do list I certainly won't lack for something to do!

Have a lovely, leisurely weekend!

Backyard2

I was fully intending to do a post with a tour of the backyard but the week kind of got away from me.  It's hard to photograph the backyard because it is long and narrow.  Or shallow and really wide is probably more accurate.

It is a nice, calm space, despite its bowling alley proportions.  Rick and I like to sit outside for an hour before dinner, having a drink and talking about our day.

Like the rest of the house we have some plans to spruce it up a bit.  I wanted to list, more for my own record keeping purposes, everything on our to do list.  Big and small.  I'll check back to it throughout the year to see what kind of progress we have made.

Backyard1

Yes.  Remove bathtub from backyard.  You can't see it in these pictures but there is an old clawfoot tub, partially submerged in one of the planting areas.

Ignore the random patch of grass.  It was left over from a roll of sod used in the front yard.  I want to remove the brick bump out you see in the picture and fill it in with lawn.  Oops.  Better add it to my list…
