Peacock

If you had the opportunity to raise peacocks would you do it?  At the beginning of the year a friend of Rick's called him and said her neighbor had moved and had abandoned a peahen and her chicks.

They (the neighbors) had a pair of them and when they moved they took the male but for some reason left behind the female.  I'm guessing looks had something to do with it.   Rick's friend went over to check on her and found a nest of eggs and then a few weeks later they hatched.

We did not take them (otherwise you know I would be blogging the high heavens out of them) because we wanted to remain on civil terms with our own neighbors who may not relish the sound of peafowl in such close proximity.  They are very noisy, you know.  The peafowl – not the neighbors.

Last night I had one of those dreams that feels like you are absolutely awake and it's really happening.  I dreamed I got up in the middle of the night and looked out our sliding glass door and there was a big peacock standing on the deck, looking in.  I looked past him and there were a dozen more on the lawn.

I was so disappointed to wake up and find out it was just a dream.  It looked positively bucolic with them out there.

Now I'm wondering if we were too hasty in turning down the peahen and her babies.

Has anyone had any experience with peacocks?  Had them yourself or know someone that did?

(I can just see Rick getting very nervous at the direction this post is taking….)

and

(those are the actual peafowl that were offered up.  How could we have refused at all!  They are so cute!)

Pumpkin head

Okay now I can officially wish you all a Happy Autumnal Equinox.

On Monday I worked 13 hours.  On Tuesday 17 hours.  I'm feeling a bit like old Mr. Pumpkin Head up there.  Slightly goofy and punch drunk on lack of sleep.  And my hair is starting to look kind of like his too.

Today I am going to work a few hours and then call it a day.  I want to spend some time out on the deck, cleaning out my neglected deck pots.  I have an idea for that pretty French wire planter my friend Kath gave me.  Something low maintenance.

And hopefully blogworthy.  Things have been kind of dull around here.  I vow to liven things up.  Fall kind of invigorates me that way.  I start feeling more creative.

Happy Autumnal Equinox Eve!  I'm celebrating early.  It actually takes place on Wednesday the 22nd at 11:09pm but I'll probably be asleep by then so I thought I'd better bring it up now.

I am so very ready.  I want sweaters and Honey Crisp apples and pumpkin spiced candles and hot mugs of milky tea and yellow and orange leaves blanketing the lawn.  Ooh and crackling fires in the fireplace.

Yep.  I'm ready.

I am irrationally thrilled by anything that comes via Royal Mail.  Just sounds better than regular, old, for the unwashed masses, mail.

I have this really bad habit of finding fun things to share with you on my Friday Favorites then I have to have it myself.  It could prove to be an expensive habit.  And probably totally annoying when it's a one of a kind item.  Sort of like "Here you go, isn't it fabulous?  Well too bad, it's mine now."

I'm trying to be better about it and I've really only done it twice.

Anyway – enough guilt – here's what came via Royal Mail.  And honestly, can you blame me for needing to own it?

I have started working on the prototype of the annual Halloween Party invitation.  I feel each year that I need to top myself.  Kind of like Ryan and his Halloween costumes.

I did do a mock-up but will withhold clear pictures until I receive some rubberstamps I've ordered for the final product.

I discovered this online rubberstamp purveyor and I love them!  Stamp Francisco   You would think they would be local to me but turns out they are based out of Washington.  They only do online orders so it doesn't really matter where they are located.

Can I just say how hard it is to find grey paper?  Why is that?  I went to my local stamp shop in Roseville (The Stamp Art Shoppe – fabulous artsy stamps.  Not too much of the cutesy which I abhor) and they didn't have any grey.  Went to Michael's (who has an abysmal stamp selection – why even bother?) – nothing.  I ended up with some silvery paper for my prototype and will try to a couple of shops local to my dad before I give up and try ordering online.

Now I just need to figure out my costume….
