Gift2

Someone is getting a present.

That's all I'm saying….

(I think giving presents is just about the most fun ever, don't you?)

Chickens are terrible models.  There is no getting them to pose like you want them too.  Nope.  It's butts in the air at all times.  So I guess this post won't be about them.  It was the only picture in my camera…..

We did not get any of the promised snow.  Not even a single flurry.  We did lose our power early in the afternoon on Friday (which made for a very abrupt end to my work week) and it didn't return until early afternoon on Saturday.

I can't complain because my friend up the hill from me lost her power on Thursday and has been told not to expect it to come back up until Thursday of this week.  She is also on a well with an electric pump which means no running water either.  She has buckets of snow melting all over her house so they have water to flush the toilets.

I suggested now might be the time for a quick getaway to San Diego or Hawaii.

Who watched the Oscars?  I only caught bits and pieces of it.  I'm really only interested in the dresses.  Here is my take…only the positive ones though. I had a whole bunch written and realized how catty it was.  Who needs the negativity?

I liked Annette Benning's dress. It was a nice departure from all the other dresses on the red carpet.   Kind of spiderwebby looking.  But sparkly.  It had a vaguely 30's feel to me.

I loved Reese Witherspoon's dress. Very simple and elegant.  I thought she looked fabulous in general – hair and makeup.  She sure looks happy these days.

Hailee Steinfeld is adorable and so was her dress.

I liked the simplicity of Jennifer Lawrence's dress but thought it might have benefitted from a fabulous necklace or an updo (is that negative or constructive?).

Halle Berry's dress was very pretty (but she could wear burlap and still look fabulous).  I do love a nude, lacy, sparkly dress. I think it would have been better with out all that tulle floating around her bottom half though.

Celine Dion sure looks great for just giving birth to twins. Strike that – Celine Dion sure looks great.  Period.  I liked her dress too.  She likes to wear white or very light silver and it suits her.

I love when the women wear vintage like Marisa Tomei did – loved the navy on her.   I saw on some websites she was getting knocked for it but I thought it was a pretty dress and it looked lovely on her.  I just wish she had worn her hair up.  If you are going vintage go all the way I think.

I know Christian Bale is English but it still surprises me whenever he speaks.

I cannot WAIT for the next Sherlock Holmes movie. I love Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. together.

I liked Natalie Portman's dress but I wasn't sure about the color.  I think I just don't care much for purple in general – I would have preferred it in a rich burgandy color.

I only saw one shot of Mila Kunis online but I loved the color of her dress. Might have been a bit busy though.

I like the color and simplicity of Gwyneth Paltrow's dress but didn't quite understand the bit around her waist.

Okay that's all I got.  We did our normal hors d'oeuvres and cocktails instead of dinner.  We had quite the spread.  The men in the family refer to the Oscars as the "Superbowl for the women."  Only the food is a bit more refined.  I'm pretty sure no one serves Bellinis at a Superbowl party.

  • I want this book: Tartine  My baking skills could always use some improvement (and the photos look incredible)
  • I love stop motion films.  This one is charming  and I love the song in it

We are supposed to get SNOW today!  Okay I realize some of you are totally over the snow but we never ever get any so we are kind of excited.  Believe me there will be pictures if it does actually happen.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Deskbefore

Gah!  No wonder I am stressed out at work.  My workspace Feng Shui is a mess!

Whole Living has an article in their January/February issue about taking control of your workspace and applying Feng Shui practices to your desk and surrounding work area.

Let's take a look at how my space measures up, shall we?

In my wealth corner I have a cardboard box filled with all the crap I swept off my desk two weeks ago in order to convey a sense of calm and order (Ha!).  In my relationship corner I have a cutting tool.  That can't be good!  My family and knowledge areas are littered with cords, miscellaneous scraps of paper and a big old tea stain.  My creativity and helpful people space is currently bogged down with phonebills, decking samples and a bottle of nail polish that I hate but haven't thrown out yet.  My health area is completely neglected as it is the only clear spot on the table.  Oh – my fame and reputation area is home to another cardboard box that has trash in it.

I did get the career bit right.  But then that is pretty much the obvious spot for my laptop and not much else will fit there.

Other than clearing off the clutter I had a hard time applying some of the practices. For example in the wealth corner I should have a water feature or a plant.  But I'm a creature of habit and I like having my stuff that I reach for all the time in that area.  So I put my in/out box there.  I do have a water bottle there – maybe that will count.

In the front left knowledge I should have a blue candle burning but I'm left-handed so that is where I need to keep my notebook and pen.  I would probably end up knocking a candle over.

I did put my phone where they suggest it should go – in the lower right, helpful people section.  I also have kleenex there because that's helpful.  At least to me and my chronically runny nose it is.  Hmm maybe it should be in the health area in the middle.

Oh well.  I'm going with a cleaner work area and that has to help.

Daffodils1

Spring is starting to peek around the corner in these parts.  Of course the yard is covered in frost this morning and it is a brisk 32 degrees.  The daffodils are valiant though.  They are the very first, determined sign of Spring.

Not much is going on around here (except for work work work) but I felt like I needed to post something.  I haven't had anytime for any fun extracurricular activies which would lead to more interesting blog posts.

I have no idea when thing are going to let up – hopefully in the next couple of weeks.  I think I need to make March a 'blog every day' month.   That recharged me the last time I did that.

In the meantime thanks for being patient.

I am usually so muted and pale I thought I would throw in a little saturated color today.  To make up for the grey grey skies we are having.  This has been an unusual week.  Last week Spring was pretending she was ready to come out and play and this week it has been blustery and rainy.  At one point I heard a big clatter on the deck behind me (my office window looks out over the deck) and my metal lanterns were scurrying across the deck.  I feared for my pretty little windchime since it is made of glass but it has survived!

  • I am not hip to the music scene at all (as evident by that last sentence….) so I'm sure I'm the last person on the planet to know about Adele but she has the most beautiful smoky voice.  Love this song about getting over someone and this follow up one about maybe not so much. (bear with the 10 second ad at the beginning – it's worth it)
  • I would love to find a print of this: Albertina Rasch Dancers by Florence Vandamm 1927
  • What is the best part of decorating magazines?  The before and afters – come along while Honey & Fitz redecorate. Loving the dressing room redo.
  • Love the simplicity of these earrings.  Or the shiny version in studs.  Yep – that's what I'm talking about…shiny.

I am so looking forward to a long weekend.  I've been working 11-12 hour days all week and I am going to relish my time off.   I hope you do too.
